  • Senior Data Engineer

    The backbone. The rock. The drummer.

    Contribute your best-in-class programming skills to develop reusable tools for the management and manipulation of very large data sets. Analyze and improve efficiency, scalability, and stability of data collection, storage, and retrieval processes. Optimize our infrastructure at both the software and hardware level. Focus on scaling horizontally rather than vertically. Rapidly fix bugs and solve problems. Work closely with, and incorporate feedback from other teams.

    Qualifications
    • B.S. in computer science, or equivalent knowledge and experience
    • 5+ years of post graduate work experience or a lifetime of serious extra curricular coding
    • Expert Java, Scala or C++ coding skills
    • Expert Hadoop and Map/Reduce development skills
    • Familiarity with Pig and HBase
    • Experience with filesystems, server architectures, and distributed systems
    • Experience with large data stores
    • Experience in analytics and logging
    • Previous success in a performance-critical environment
    • Rapid learner who thrives in a fast-paced environment
    • Disciplined approach to testing and quality assurance
    • Great verbal and written communication and documentation abilities

  • Senior Visual Designer

    You’re a talented visual designer — with an up-to-date portfolio to back this up. Your designs are innovative and enable the user to more easily understand the information presented. You live and breathe design. Your weekends are spent taking pictures, listening to new bands and getting inspired.

    Responsibilities
    • Continually improve and standardize RootMusic’s look and feel
    • Create custom BandPages for some of the greatest bands out there
    • Develop and adhere to style guideline principles for our corporate site and for the BandPage product
    • Actively participates and help drive the creative process by presenting thorough and well-developed recommendations to meet the given objectives
    • Prior success in a fast-paced environment where short timetables and some unpredictability is the norm
    • Able to collaborate with product managers and the business team. You are able to effectively incorporate other stakeholders’ ideas into the product lifecycle when it is the best interest of the product
    Qualifications
    • At least 7 years of experience in visual design in the software industry
    • Extraordinary product, interaction, and visual design talent
    • Interest in music and music technology (seriously this is required)
    • Expert knowledge of Adobe Fireworks, Photoshop and Illustrator
    • A working knowledge of Adobe Flash, After Effects, CSS and HTML
    • Strong command of web standards, CSS-based design, cross-browser compatibility
    • You understand the challenges and restrictions when it comes to UX deliverables, including guidelines, wireframes and specifications
    • Supreme attention to detail and a demonstrated mastery of typography, color, and page layout
    • Prior experience with designing consumer social products

  • Senior UI/UX Designer

    You’re a talented human computer interaction designer — with an up-to-date portfolio to back this up. Your designs are innovative and enable the user to more easily understand the information presented. The Senior UI Designer collaborates with the great minds on our executive and product teams to create simple, elegant and innovative solutions that engage the most discerning eyes of the music industry.

    Responsibilities
    • Apply your seasoned, successful track record to solving RootMusic’s biggest usability challenges
    • Cultivate and improve RootMusic’s focus on a user experience that goes above and beyond
    • Coordinate with product managers, visual designer and the business teams to execute on high-impact products and features
    • Collect and analyze metrics of design effectiveness using A/B and usability testing
    • Expert working knowledge of CSS and HTML. You are able to quickly make additions or changes to our website
    • Able to quickly mockup interactive prototypes using a variety of technologies and methods (pen and paper to flash)
    • Creatively spot and solve problems in a continually-evolving product environment
    • Proactively look for ways to improve user experience in all aspects of product
    • Prior success in a fast-paced environment where short timetables and some unpredictability is the norm
    Qualifications
    • At least 7 years of experience in user interface design at a software company
    • B.S. in Computer Science, HCI, MIS, or equivalent knowledge and experience
    • Strong command of web standards, CSS-based design, cross-browser compatibility and familiarity with JavaScript
    • Extraordinary passion for cutting edge technologies and trends
    • Interest in music and music technology (seriously, this is required)
    • Prior experience with designing consumer social products

  • Senior Javascript Engineer

    As a Senior Software Engineer on the RootMusic Javascript team, your seasoned expertise and knowledge will now tackle the challenges of a cutting-edge platform built on bleeding-edge technologies. Working alongside a senior team of engineers, you will continue to push RootMusic's dedication to innovative user experiences and highly-scalable app architectures. Additionally, you will be free to leverage new libraries (i.e. Backbone.js, Underscore.js) and server-side advances (i.e. node.js) wherever you and the team deem appropriate.

    You are expected to have a passion for problem-solving and proactively identify and attack potential issues. For normal engineering challenges, you are expected to take projects from start through completion with minimal supervision, as well as steer junior engineers in the right direction when necessary.
